Short Video of Rosie

I have posted a short video of Rosie running around our yard.

I had to take her to the vet yesterday - the vet suspects she has a bladder infection and she will be on antibiotics for 10 days and then re-checked. I am in the process of calling the families that have shown interest in adopting Rosie. I hope to have made a decision by early next week so she can go home - wherever that may be! The kids and I are trying to spend more time with her - not only knowing that she is leaving soon, but also to help her continue to learn what it means to be loved. She knows her name and comes to it and is letting us pet her - even when she is outside (though not for long). Her new family will have to be patient with her as she adapts to the life as a pet!

On another note - I was contacted about two male GSP's in Scottsboro, Alabama that need to be rescued. If anyone out there following this blog wants to help with GSP foster, then by all means Fill out an application at the GSP Rescue website and contact me so we can get you a foster dog! It has been very rewarding for my family!

Rosie's first week

Rosie has done well this week! She is beginning to adjust to life as a pet. She and our lab have started playing, not just co-existing. She is also staying in her boundaries with the wireless fence. She is still not seeking out our human companionship. I am working on that. I am making her sit periodically throughout the day (which she is now being stubborn about) and making her sit before she receives food, treats, etc. I will move on to walking on a leash soon. and some other basic commands. She is recognizing her name "Rosie" and is coming when we call it. She jumps in and out of our fence as she pleases (please refer to an above picture!)
She is still constantly on the hunt when I am with her in the back yard - looking for squirrel trails or chasing birds.
Stay tuned! "Rosie learns a new command" coming up next!

Rosie's First Day

Rosie finally settled down last night after a bath and some dinner. Surprisingly, she is crate trained. Spent all night in her crate without making a noise until about 6:00 this morning. Even then it was just a little whine to let us know she needed to go out. Her nose is working overtime as she explores our yard. She and our Labrador are finally warming up to each other and she even invited him to play chase with her this morning! She is also seeming to do well on the wireless petsafe system we have. The shelter had warned me that she was a bit of an escape artist - can climb/jump a six foot kennel fence. She is gingerly testing her boundaries to see how far she can go. Plans for today - Go to the vet to make sure she is healthy and get a rabies shot.

Welcome to our home, Rosie!

This is Rosie!
I drove to meet another volunteer to fetch her today. I took the pet porter, but never used it. She was quite content to lay in the seat next to me. We spent the day getting to know each other. She is very anxious. She paces alot. Her hunting instincts are strong! Her nose followed every squirrel trail in the back yard she could find! I am hoping she will relax within the next day or two as she gets used to us. I will keep you posted!
